AI Agent Market: Anthropic Launches Claude Duet for Business Automation

Anthropic releases a specialized agent for professionals and small businesses, distinguishing itself from personal assistants by focusing on background task management and data integration.

The artificial intelligence sector has recently seen a surge in consumer-facing productivity tools, with new applications debuting on a weekly basis. Against this backdrop, Anthropic has officially introduced Claude Duet, a new agent designed to compete directly with established players such as Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo.

Claude Duet is engineered specifically for professionals and small business owners who require automated task management rather than casual personal assistance. The company has explicitly differentiated the product from personal agents like Instinct, noting that Duet is not optimized for handling simple errands or booking tickets. Furthermore, unlike some competitors, Duet does not provide a live visual feed of its browser activities, prioritizing efficient background processing over real-time transparency.

The core functionality of the agent centers on proactive workflow management. It can generate daily briefings, construct custom dashboards, and suggest specific actions based on user data. Operating through its own virtual machine, Duet completes tasks in the background while the user continues with other work, only interrupting the user when explicit approval is required for critical steps.

This launch coincides with a broader industry shift from simple AI assistants to autonomous agents that act on behalf of users. While rivals like Meta focus on personal assistants, they are simultaneously rolling out business-specific versions with deep app integrations. Similarly, OpenAI’s Dots emphasizes professional tool connectivity. Anthropic positions Duet within this competitive landscape by emphasizing its ability to monitor ongoing tasks and deliver recommendations proactively.

Built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model, the agent boasts significant connectivity, linking to over 6,000 connectors and plug-ins available in the Claude Marketplace. It also supports financial transactions, allowing it to make online purchases on behalf of users via Stripe’s Link digital wallet or Shopify’s Shop Pay. To maintain trust, Anthropic has implemented strict controls: sensitive actions like payments require user approval, while the agent is prohibited from trading securities or moving money between accounts.

Security measures are a primary focus for the new release. Anthropic introduced a new classifier that scans every message to prevent sensitive information from leaking. By default, the agent is configured to reject requests for credit card numbers or government identification, adding an extra layer of protection for business users.

Claude Duet is currently available in research preview for Pro and Max customers on iOS, Android, and the web via Claude.ai. Access is restricted to a waitlist, signaling that the platform is still undergoing refinement before a wider public rollout.
